Mariuxi Girales (english)

Mariuxi Girales. 1993. Quito y Pedro Vicente Maldonado (PVM), Ecuador. Bachelor´s Degree in Contemporary Arts by Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Minor in Anthropology. Art director in Imaykan4rte, a branch of cultural management in the Imaykan4r recycling center, now in charge of site specific art micro residencies in “LaPlanta”. Second in council for the board of the “Extensión Pedro Vicente Maldonado del Núcleo de Pichincha de la Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana”. My work happens in relation with memory, territory and function. The media of art I use are: ceramics, illustration, artist book and experimental sculpture in different scales (structures and landscapes). I observe through art: production systems, the dichotomy between consumption and waste; as well as, the common grounds between urban and rural landscapes, nature, science and collective knowledge

I organized a community library/open space with collected books from the city, called “La Casita Roja” located in the “Recinto El Progreso-PVM”, 2015-2017. I participated in the cultural management, production and organization of “Extensión de la Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana PVM”; 2015-2017 as an external agent and 2017-2019 as a board member. I pursued an investigation on sustainable cattle raising and agroforestry for a sector of the Basin of Achotillo River in PVM, 2016-2018. I produced with three colleagues, our bachelor thesis show called “Inequívocas”, with my artwork: for a pasture: filled sculptures with forgotten elements at the Interactive Science Museum (MIC), Quito, Mars-April 2019. I directed the ephemeral exhibit “Ósmosis” as a result of a site specific microresidency in LaPlanta by Imaykan4rte, Calderón, May-2018. At the moment, I manage “Secuencias”, a second micro residency of art and context, by Imaykan4rte in LaPlanta-Calderón. I also organize a long term volunteer, community library and tourism proyect in Recinto El Progreso-PVM. I will participate in a collective show by Espacio Violenta, in Guayaquil, with my reflection of a journey to the sea on September, 2019. I will display my work in “Experimentos 2019”, organized by USFQ in NoLugar Art Gallery, about an everyday action in Quito´s Botanic Garden, an artwork organic waste related, called “Cáscarasobras” in September, 2019. I am also part of the exhibition agenda 2019 in Nolugar Art Gallery, with an installation artwork and video art on territory and urbanism about the Barrio Bolaños in Quito.
